Single-use paper and plastic cups don’t have a home here (and never have). ![]() It’s a tip-free cafe (seriously, they won’t accept tips even if you try) that accommodates for fair wages through its menu pricing. General Info Address: 4873 W 38th St, Indianapolis, IN 46254Īmberson Coffee & Grocer is upending Indianapolis’ coffee scene. MOTW also makes amazing Yemeni Chai ( just saying). run towards this drink), I noticed a young Sikh family nibbling on pistachio-dusted pastries a woman draped in a beautiful blue tudong, study notes spread out in front of her two friends, dupattas twirled around their necks, searching for a place to sit and read and a tall man scrolling through a Bible app while waiting for his order.ĭrinks carry aromatic flavors: rose, mint, hibiscus. As I sipped my velvety date cardamon latte ( so good. MOTW Coffee is a place that welcomes all. Tucked away, in a silent space, is a prayer and meditation room. The interior is simple and beautiful, clothed in lattice-covered arches, a duo of sunshine yellow couches, a lawn green hedge panel, and hollowed out study rooms. It’s located in a less-visited area of Indianapolis, a quiet strip mall complex. Here’s what to try (depending on the season): Calvin Fletcher’s Masala Latte (coffee collides with chai in this winter favorite), Robin (espresso, springtime cara cara juice, citrus bitters), and Canary (summery cold brew).Īnother one of our favorite coffee shops in Indianapolis is MOTW (Muslims Of The World) Coffee. And the shop’s coffee is a good vehicle to get stuff done. The mood is conducive for long, productive working sessions. Calvin Fletcher’s is a place many walk into and plan to spend the entire day in. Students are hunched over the remaining spaces, their makeshift desks overwhelmed by papers and highlighters. Laptops – their bulky wires extending to tiny outlets skirting the shop – crowd tables. Open the door and the smoky, biting scent of fresh ground coffee beans will immediately grip your senses. When I think of cozy coffee shops in Indianapolis, Calvin Fletcher’s is one of the first names that pops to mind. Tinker also has an open-to-the-public roastery in Indianapolis and a slot at AMP. Those willing to venture out of the usual and try new things, however, will find that Milktooth offers a unique and authentic experience that no other restaurant in Indianapolis can replicate.Travel Tip: If you’re looking for local coffee blends, shop at Tinker! Tinker is the secret behind many of our favorite Indy cafes. For those who enjoy predictable food, Milktooth, unfortunately, is not for you. Overall, I spent about $36 including tip for my meal. This paired extremely well with the Bloody Mary I ordered from the large cocktail menu. The dish was absolutely incredible in every way possible, having just the right amount of every ingredient and strong, but not overwhelming, spice. For my main dish, I decided to order the lamb and chorizo posole with fresh hominy. I love Milktooth’s confidence as well, as the bottom of the menu says: “Modifications politely declined.” To me this implies that the chefs at Milktooth put a lot of time and effort into creating their menu and expect people to experience each dish as a whole, rather than picking it apart. I ordered a mocha latte that had the perfect amount of sweetness, and I thought it was cool that the barista made a leaf design out of the cream. Not only does Milktooth offer some of the best food in Indy, it has an extensive coffee menu that would put most coffee shops to shame. When I visited Milktooth I first noticed that the restaurant is in what looks like a repurposed garage. Some other restaurants may have slightly better food or a more inviting atmosphere, but the way Milktooth brings together every aspect of an enjoyable restaurant experience together is unparalleled. If I had to make a quick judgement and declare my favorite restaurant, my first instinct would be to pick Milktooth.
